DAY 11

Gentleness.

FOCAL VERSE :
“with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

Ephesians 4:2-3 ESV

Partnership with the Holy Spirit.

DEEP REFLECTION :

Being gentle in this era sometimes makes you an easy pushover target. A familiar misconception is that gentleness is weakness. However, gentleness is humility and strength under control. From Galatians 5:22-23 one is made aware that the Holy Spirit works in us to be more like Christ Jesus.

Christ Jesus demonstrated gentleness in diverse forms. Here, I will introduce how He corrected— in love the woman caught in adultery: “The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. Now in the Law; Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”]]”John 8:3-7, 9-11 ESV.

The above scriptural verses from John 8 shows us how Christ Jesus took time (patience) coupled with love ( not victimising the woman) in correcting the wrong the woman did. He did not yell at her neither did He accuse her in the multitude. Rather, He engaged the woman in a humble and kind manner.

How do we relate with people who have erred?
How do we carry ourselves about when giving power over people?
Do we impose our views harshly on people rather than engaging a humble way?
How do we behave when we have authority over people?

It does not hurt engaging amicably someone who erred. Neither does it cost millions of dollars speaking politely to all around you. In a world where most people fancy tearing down people, let us be of a gentle approach to all and sundry.

We stand to enjoy our environments the more gentle we all are. This in turn fosters unity which is a good fuel for development.

SOUL PRAYER :

Dear Lord, thank you for today. Thank you for giving me yet another chance to experience life. I pray you teach me how to be gentle your way. Mould me into a representation of yours, Amen.

INTENTIONAL EXERCISE :

Engage the people you meet today amicably. In the face of errors, misunderstandings or failures, take it easy on each other. Be patient in your utterances and correct in love.

Hey Beautiful Soul, we would love to hear from you.
