Reliability Dependence
FOCAL VERSE
“He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber”.
Psalm 121:13
DEEP REFLECTION
In short, reliability simply means trustworthy. More, it can be described as something that is consistently good in quality. In reference to the Bible, reliability has to do with whether or not what it contains – from ideologies, history to geography and more – stands to be trustworthy or not. Journeying through a few scriptures, one can easily see how potent and trustworthy the words of Bible is. From Psalm 33:4 NLT, For the word of the LORD holds true, and we can trust everything he does. 1 Corinthians 1:9 NLT, God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Nothing we go through, whether good or bad, we go through alone. God is with us through it all. It is important to rely on God and to remember that He is always with us. God provides help when we need it and in the ways we need it most. Sometimes He even provides help in ways we didn’t even know we did need. God knows everything we are going through at this precise moment and everything we will go through in the future. He knows the best way to handle every situation so we get the best possible outcome. Thus, we need to trust him with that. We need to follow his path and trust that he knows best, because he does.
Wilt not suffer thy foot to be moved,…. This is either an address of the psalmist to his own soul; or to any other good human, his friend and acquaintance, assuring of stability, and of final perseverance in grace to glory. The Lord keeps the feet of his saints from falling: he will not suffer them to be moved out of the spiritual estate in which they stand; nor off of the Foundation and Rock of ages, on which their feet are set, and their goings established; nor out of the house of God. Where they are as pillars; nor out of his ways, where he upholds their goings; moved in some sense they may be, yet not “greatly moved”; their feet may be “almost” gone, and their steps “well nigh” slipped, and yet shall not fall finally and totally, or so as to perish.
See Psalm 62:2; he that keepeth thee will not slumber; neither angels nor men are the keepers of the saints, but the Lord himself; he is the keeper of every individual saint, of every regenerate person, of everyone of his sheep, of every member of his church; he keeps them by his power. He preserves them by his grace, he holds them with his right hand; guides them by his counsel, keeps their feet from falling, and brings them safe to glory: and a watchful keeper he is, he does not so much as slumber; he keeps them night and day, lest any harm them.
As He promised not to let our foot slip, it means that we are always protected by Him. Our coming and our going are protected by God. He watches over us and will always ensure our safety because He loves us and He cares for us. You can depend on him becuase he is reliable.
